Typhoons

When a serious typhoon arrives you will probably have a day off school, and a day off work. But I don't think that most people enjoy the free day. In August, typhoon Morakot killed many people in Ping Dong county, and damaged crops (fruit and vegetables). During the typhoon, we were able to stay at home and watch TV, or use the computer, but, with the wind being so strong and being so noisy, did many people enjoy watching TV? Did the noise of the wind prevent you from concentrating when you used your PC?

For those people who like to sleep, I'm sure the wind was too loud, and kept you awake. If you also needed air-conditioning, there was even more noise!

Two years ago during a typhoon, rainwater was blown through the gap under my door, and into my apartment For an hour and a half, I used a sponge to soak up the rainwater, and then empty it into a large bowl. But the rain was entering my apartment as fast as I could soak it up. I was getting very tired and hungry, when suddenly the wind changed direction and no longer blew the rain into my apartment.

Personally I feel bored during a typhoon. Feeling bored doesn't mean 'having nothing to do. Feeling bored actually means 'not feeling like doing anything' because one has no mental energy. When the wind blows so hard, this is how I feel.

Do you know how much rain fell during typhoon Morakot? In the badly affected areas, 2400 mm fell in 2 days. Do you know what the annual rainfall of London, the capital city of the United Kingdom (UK) is ‘Annual’ means 'each year'. Well, the average rainfall in London each year is 585 mm. Therefore the amount of rain brought to Ping Dong County by typhoon Morakot is more than four times London's annual rainfall! That is unbelievable.

In fact, the typhoon brought more rain than Taipei's annual rainfall, which is about 2200 mm.
