A helicopter parent is a term for a person who pays extremely close attention to his or her child or children,
particularly at educational institutions. They rush to prevent any harm or failure from befalling them or letting them
learn from their own mistakes, sometimes even contrary to the children's wishes. They are so named because, like
a helicopter, they hover closely overhead, rarely out of reach whether their children need them or not.
Taiwan's six million “helicopter parents” are hovering, their noses in everything involving their kids. And
while their influence is expanding, their impact may not be for the better.
延伸注解:Black Hawks
who cross the line from a mere excess of zeal to unethical behavior such as writing their children's college
admission essays. (The reference is to the military helicopter of the same name.)

In this month’s “Grammar and Writing” section, I would like to introduce to you a short passage written by one of my students from the Department of Tourism and Management. The title she worked on was Cyber Love.
Cyber Love 9700301 by Chen
I played the Internet at home. I chat with a cyber friends, we talked a lot.
He was funny and humor. He invited me to meet next time. We met at Train Station Exit and go to eat lunch. We chat a lot and have a good time today. I felt he is a easygoing person.
寫完一短文後建議同學先用 Microsoft Word 打出來,然後點工具,出現拼字及文法檢查,一行一行檢查,至少把基本拼字及文法先改對。以上面這篇短文為例,根據Microsoft Word拼字及文法檢查
Line one : I chat with a cyber friends, 建議改成 chat with friends or chat with a friend
Line four: he is a easygoing person建議改成 He is an easygoing person.
另外老師建議以下幾個修改給同學作參考:

Take me out to a ball game!
Tom: Hi, Jerry! Are you free tonight?
Jerry: Yes, I’m available. What’s up?
Tom: Well, I was thinking about going to a baseball game tonight. Would you come with me?
Jerry: Sure, I’d love to. I haven’t been to a baseball game in years.
Tom: Me too!
Jerry: Why haven’t you?
Tom: The traffic in LA is terrible! The LA traffic has prevented me from going because I didn’t want to get stuck in traffic on the freeway. With you coming with me, we can drive in the carpool lane and that should save us some time.
Jerry: Yes, not only will we save gas by going with one car, we’ll also save the cost of parking at the stadium.
Tom: Exactly! I’ve heard that the cost of stadium parking is outrageous these days.
Jerry: It figures. The average annual salary for a major league baseball player is well over two million (U.S.) dollars. The money has to come from somewhere.
Tom: They should have earned enough money with big fat television contracts and luxury suites, not to mention the profits from concession stands and ticket sells.
Jerry: I agree. So, which game do you want to go, the Dodgers or the Angels?
Tom: I’m a big Wang Chien-Ming fan. The Yankees are coming to town to play the Dodgers tonight at the Dodger Stadium.
Jerry: I thought the Yankees only play against American League teams, like the Angels when they visit LA.
Tom: In addition to playing against each American League team, they also play against selected members of the National League during their inter-league schedule.
Jerry: How does that work?
Tom: Well, the Yankees played against NL Central Division teams last year. And they played against NL East Division teams the year before. Therefore, the rotation calls for them to play against NL West Division teams this year, like the Dodgers, Padres, and Giants.
Jerry: I see. So, how is Wang Chien-Ming doing this season?
Tom: He is doing fine. I think he is motivated to do well this year after losing the salary arbitration during the off-season.
Jerry: How did he lose his case? I thought he had done pretty well the past few years.
Tom: Well, the representatives from the Yankees attacked his low strike-out ratio and the lack of success in the playoffs.
Jerry: Will we see him come to bat tonight?
Tom: Yes, we should see him batting in the ninth order because the DH will not be employed under National League rules.
Jerry: It should be a good game tonight.
Tom: I hope so.
